FIRM HISTORY
Wiehle•Carr was founded in 1992, as a dynamic follow-up to Louis Wiehle's and Christopher Carr's participation as principals in another firm beginning four years earlier. WCA projects have included the Yorba Linda Public Library, retail stores, office tenant improvements, health care facilities (including over 75 projects for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in ten years), resort projects, and numerous unusual hillside residences.
As Taliesin Fellow and student of Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1950s, Wiehle is a pure designer who creates architecture that remains modern. Wiehle's insistent refusal to be bound by architectural "styles" is an indication of respect for the individuality of the firm's clients. Wiehle•Carr is devoted to the exploration and practice of design in the context of nature, people, culture and environment, promoting a constant investigation of the discipline, art, and technology of architecture.
Carr is a graduate in industrial design and environmental studies from Art Center College of Design, where he has been also a faculty member. His designs grow with discipline and intelligence directly out of the architectural setting, to build lyrical, sharp, meaningful spaces.
The commitment at Wiehle•Carr is to view architecture as a quest for the clear expression of essential ideas. Owing a debt to Wright's philosophy, the firm's work expresses the wholeness of a project in ways that return, upon completion and into the future, metaphysical rewards to both clients and users.
